During the 6 months of Web Design internship at TomTom, I got to work on various different projects that had a high impact on the company’s digital experience and brand consistency. My role involved helping with new designs and redesigning some existing pages. Alongside that I helped with maintaining and optimizing the design library to ensure cohesive, scalable design elements across tomtom.com.

One of the most memorable project I got to put my hands on was Traffic Index. It's an index aimed to rank rank cities across the world based on their average travel time and provide free access to city-by-city information. Additionally, it measures the financial impact of fuel costs and traffic congestion, as well as the fuel/kWh consumption, CO2 emissions, etc.
Working on the Traffic Index was particularly rewarding because it allowed me to dip my feet into data visualization techniques to present complex information in a clear, user-friendly way. Ensuring ease of use throughout the pages was a key focus, as the goal was for users to quickly grasp the insights and compare cities effortlessly.

Probably the biggest project I got to work on was the Newsroom redesign. This project was particularly tricky because the user journey has to easy for journalists / press people, public audience and other stakeholders.
During this project I got do a UX/UI audit of the page, figuring out which areas work and which could be improved. Later on we used the insights as a base and inspiration for the design decisions. Overall, it was a pretty "tough cookie" to crack, aligning everybody's unique needs and goals with the metrics and performance results of the page.

Another continuous project that I spend a lot of my time on was designing pages for different events and webinars. Throughout this project I had to always maintain few focus points when designing: matching TomTom's design guidelines with the guidelines of other involved parties; making sure the user-flow remains clear for the event participants and the information is structured in a cohesive and understandable way.

In the second half of my internship, I had a chance to step out of my usual bubble and design a product page for the GO Navigator. This project allowed me to dive into the specific features and benefits of the product, crafting a layout that would guide users through its unique selling points. Through close collaboration with the product and marketing teams, I had to ensure the page aligned with other product pages while optimizing it for user engagement and conversion. It gave me valuable insights into balancing usability and aesthetics with strategic business goals.

Cross-functional collaboration - working closely with teams like marketing, development and product provided me with experience in adapting the designs with different stakeholders and reinforcing the importance of communication and goals.
User-centered design - in every project that I laid my hands on, it was important to understand the unique user needs and tasks. Whether it would be simplifying the data visualization or structuring content, it is always important to understand the context and purpose of your design.
Design consistency and efficiency - throughout my internship design systems and libraries caught my attention. I loved working on that and making design processes easier and more efficient for the whole team.
Adaptability and growth - shifting between different projects lead me to broadening my design perspective and allowed me to step out of my usual comfort zone. I learned to adapt and navigate different challenges and integrate constructive feedback.
